Lately I've been listening to Notes on the Synthesis of Form by Christopher Alexander while I work. Although the book is primarily about architecture and industrial design, I think its ideas extend far beyond those fields. Rather than treating design as a purely intuitive process, Alexander explores how complex design challenges can be understood, analyzed, and resolved through a coherent system of relationships.
It's one of those books that changes the way you look at design, regardless of your discipline.
