Irmin Schmidt on his new album Requiem, field recording, and its connection to CAN’s discography:

“Even in CAN, there were always environmental sounds included, because the CAN studio had a big door opening onto the outside yard, and when we recorded, it was always left open. The sounds from outside didn’t disturb us as we went on recording — we liked that. You can hear a plane, the kids in the neighbour’s swimming pool, agricultural machines, and all sorts of other sounds. But we didn’t record nature the way I did for Requiem. That’s different.”
