Meet Marie Yazawa, an international UN Volunteer from Japan who is currently serving as a Health and Nutrition Officer for UNICEF in the Solomon Islands.

Marieโ€™s mission is to ensure every child gets a healthy start. She supports a major school health and nutrition initiative funded by the Government of Japan, focusing directly on improving school meals in Isabel and Western Provinces.

For Marie, this mission is deeply personal.

โ€œI joined UNV because I believe every child deserves the chance to grow, learn and dream, no matter where they are born. Serving in the Solomon Islands allows me to contribute to school-based nutrition work that goes beyond food- supporting childrenโ€™s health, nutrition, learning, dignity and hope.โ€

Being an international UN Volunteer means connecting global partnerships with grassroots action to bring health, dignity, and hope to local classrooms.
