The concept is adaptive reuse meets modern mountain retreat, where two repurposed 40ft shipping containers form the structural spine of a home that treads lightly on the land 📦.

By setting the containers parallel and bridging them with a dramatic single-slope timber roof, we unlock a soaring central breezeway that becomes the main living volume 🌲.

This design turns industrial constraints into architecture. The containers house bedrooms and baths for privacy, while the sheltered space between them becomes an open, glass-lined kitchen and living area that frames the hillside views 🌄.

Architectural Elements�:
The structure floats on steel piers and concrete footings, minimizing excavation and site impact on steep terrain 🏗️. Vertical board and batten siding clads the container exteriors, softening the industrial shell with a residential texture 🎨. A warm cedar soffit under the deep roof overhang creates a defined outdoor room, while clerestory windows and strategic glazing pull in light without sacrificing privacy ✨. Concrete steps and boulder landscaping tie the home to the slope, and the raised foundation allows airflow and drainage with minimal grading 🪨. The cantilevered deck extends the interior outward, blurring where the house ends and the landscape begins 🪵.

Cost & Construction Time�:
Using two high-cube containers and value-engineered finishes, the core weather-tight shell can be achieved for $30,000–$55,000 in materials and basic outfitting 💰. A comfortable, finished turnkey build with MEP, insulation, cladding, and fixtures lands around $90,000–$160,000 depending on region and spec level 🔧. Because the containers arrive as pre-built modules and much of the work happens off-site, on-site construction can be completed in as little as 2 weeks from foundation to move-in ⏱️.
