The new piece BIRTH will premiere in October 2024!

Susanna Leinonen Company presents the world premiere of new performance BIRTH in Dance House Helsinki this October.

Susanna Leinonen (SLC’s Executive Artistic Director) leads an international ensemble from Finland. For over 20 years, SLC has been an active incubator of new directions in the field of Contemporary Dance. Through ongoing presentations on the local, national, and international stage, SLC invests deeply in the creative practices of visionary national and international artists, realizing projects through a commitment to artist-led process.

BIRTH, a new work by Susanna Leinonen, will be deeply influenced by her emotions, thoughts, and movements, both conscious and subconscious. “The foundation of this piece is the idea that everything begins at birth,” Leinonen explains. “Even if the world were to end, I believe a fragment of human DNA would survive, sparking a new beginning. The questions of where, how, and in what form this might happen are fascinating to explore.”

This performance delves into the themes of creation, identity, and transformation, seamlessly blending innovative choreography with captivating visual and auditory elements. BIRTH promises to be a profound exploration of the human experience, highlighting Leinonen’s distinctive artistic vision and the extraordinary talents of her ensemble. The premiere is set for October 2th, 2024, at the Dance House Helsinki, offering audiences an enthralling and contemplative experience.
