A Message for 🇪🇹Ethiopia
🐕 What Morocco’s Stray Dog Crisis Teaches Ethiopia
Recently, Morocco has faced global outrage over reports of mass killing of stray dogs, allegedly linked to preparations for the 2030 World Cup.
Even though no court has punished Morocco yet, the country is already paying a serious price.
🌍 What consequences can a country face for mass dog killings?
❌ International shame and reputation damage
Countries accused of animal cruelty lose global respect. Media, NGOs, and the public label them as inhumane.
❌ Tourism and economic loss
Tourists avoid countries
associated with cruelty. Campaigns and boycotts reduce income and investment.
❌ Pressure from global institutions
Organizations like FIFA, the EU, and the UN may apply monitoring, conditions, or restrictions.
❌ Public anger and activism
International attention
strengthens local activists and increases internal pressure on governments.
📚 Lessons from Other Countries
Romania faced years of EU criticism after killing stray dogs. The problem only improved after switching to sterilization.
Brazil was forced to change its methods due to global pressure before major sports events.
Countries that continued killing failed to control rabies.
Countries that vaccinated and sterilized dogs succeeded.
🚨 The Scientific Truth (WHO)
Rabies cannot be controlled by killing dogs.
It is controlled by vaccinating at least 70% of the dog population and using sterilization and community education.
Mass killing: ❌ Does not stop rabies
❌ Makes the problem worse
❌ Damages a country’s image
🇪🇹 A Message for Ethiopia
What is happening in Morocco shows us one clear truth:
👉 Cruelty is no longer a “local issue.” The world is watching.
If Ethiopia continues mass poisoning and killing of dogs:The same international backlash will come.
Public health will not improve.
Our country’s image will suffer.
Humane solutions are not weakness.
They are intelligence, science, and responsibility.
