How to spot a cork tree in Portugal and why we should remove the log from it. 🪵
It is a natural process but if we don’t help the tree, it gets layers and layers and looks sick.
Cork is a sustainable, ecological and vegan product. You can buy a lot of objects made out of cork in Portugal. Just check the brands to see if it’s real cork or not (China makes fake cork)

Not feeling like posting these past few days due to the earthquakes the world faced, but here goes. On the 24th and 25th I had 2 tours in Braga. Braga is where you can find the best Saint John’s festivities.
First pic is with some elements from the cultural association Os Sinos da Sé, who attended the Saint John’s procession (not the only cultural group attending, btw. If you love our traditional costumes, you have to check this procession!)
The other pics are from the 25th, with a family that taught me more about the process of restoring altars with golden leaf and also organs, but they also learnt with me the fabulous story of the restoration of Saint Lazarus Church’s organ. The pics are the saints that attended the procession, starting with Our Lady of the Tower, which has a particularly beautiful jewellery set, with the traditional filigree made in the North of Portugal (Póvoa de Lanhoso and Gondomar).
I wish to have a reliquary like hers someday!
Today Saint John has already gone around in circles!
You can do this in Braga. You spend a coin on the red machine you see in the video as a donation for the party comission.
If you never saw Saint John festivities I fully recommend you come to Braga to check. Porto has the fame but Braga’s festivities last longer and on the saint’s day you have a unique representation of his birth and a King David’s dance that are unique and the procession is also lovely!
