MultihullCup Regatta

Brisker wind conditions and two races gave the second day of Multihull Cup 2025 added impetus today with close racing across the board.

Allegra reaffirmed her intention of repeating her title win in 2021 with a further two victories on Race Day, however both came with dramatically reduced winning margins as the chasing fleet upped their game.

On the water in today's first race the Morrelli & Melvin designed Gaea crossed the line 22 seconds behind Layla, but was promoted to second place on corrected time. While runner-up behind Allegra once again, the 65-foot Gaea more than halved the deficit to her 84-foot rival compared to yesterday's opening race.

Allegra takes win in calm but enthusiastic start to Multihull Cup 2025

On what proved a mellow if challenging introduction to the delights of the Multihull Cup for the trio of first timers taking part, it was the Mallorcan event veteran Allegra which showed the fleet the way to go.

The elegant Nigel Irens designed 84-footer took line honours and corrected time victory in the opening Race Day 1 at the annual celebration of multihull performance sailing.

In fine, bright but light conditions off Mallorca's stunning south coast the diverse Multihull Cup fleet were able to race after a short postponement, though the course had to be eventually shortened in the 7-9 knot breeze.

The Multihull Cup is making final preparations to welcome a trio of first timers to the Mallorcan celebration of multihull sailing at the end of the month.

Now marking its seventh edition, the pioneering regatta dedicated to performance cruising multihulls will once again return to its long-standing home in the exclusive venue from 26th-28th September.

The largest of the three debutantes is the Gunboat 72 Layla, alongside Gaea, Falcon and Allegra.

"We are looking forward to again welcoming the owners, crews and friends of the Multihull Cup — it is always a great pleasure," said Nani Mass of the exclusive Philippe Starck designed marina.

When it came it was — by a 20 second margin after over two and a half hours of racing — in favour of the spectacular, 80-ft red-hulled Highland Fling. The outcome left the front running duo tied with two wins apiece, with Lord Laidlaw's catamaran claiming overall victory on countback.
