P to B on one of the greatest whitewater stretches in the lower 48 today—with an all-time crew. South Yuba is firing right now… get it while you can, because this window won’t last long! 🙏

South Yuba Raw! It has recently been made public that the South Yuba is expected to flow like it did back in the '90s, with months of reliable flows ahead. Here’s a blast from the past: a 2019 run down the Purdons to Bridgeport section with Benny Marr and I. The flows were on the high—seriously high—side of good! It’s such a special river, with countless runnable sections that truly offer something for everyone. I’d argue it’s California’s finest river—hands down.
South Yuba/Purdons to Bridgeport/Super High 2019 South Yuba, Purdons to Bridgeport. Flow 4.2k plus at the put in and 5.5k to 6k at the take out. Gruesome two some with Benny Marr. Raw

Feather Fest this past weekend was one for the books, with nearly 2,000 people gathering to celebrate our incredible river community. Year after year, this community amazes me with its passion and dedication. But there is one individual whose contributions stand far above the rest when it comes to protecting, saving, and fighting for the release of flows on California rivers:
For 27 years, Dave has been a tireless advocate as our local representative for the Association. Feather Fest itself exists because of his vision. He’s spearheaded negotiations that have improved flows on more than 20 river stretches across the state. His efforts were pivotal in reopening the Merced and Tuolumne rivers to paddling within Yosemite National Park, a triumph for kayaking recreation within the National Park.
Dave’s influence extends far beyond local efforts. He has testified before the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee on behalf of river conservation, and he’s been instrumental in developing the science to restore more natural flows below dams in California. His impact on river conservation is immeasurable.
As with all good things, however, Dave’s tenure with AWA is coming to an end. He recently shared with me that he is stepping down from his position. While it’s hard to imagine the next chapter without his leadership, I am forever grateful for his relentless dedication and the lasting legacy he leaves behind. Thank you, Dave, for everything you’ve done for our rivers and community. You will be deeply missed, but your influence will live on. 🙏🙏🙏
