The (NEB) is an interdisciplinary initiative by the European Commission that reimagines how we live and build in harmony with nature, culture, and technology. Inspired by the original Bauhaus movement, it blends sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusion to design spaces and products that are beautiful, functional, and environmentally friendly.

The Bauhaus school and its utopian principles, despite their flaws, have always been an absolute reference for us. That’s why we look at the NEB initiative with great interest, seeing it as an opportunity to keep exploring new ways of sustainable design.

The development of our Niu armchair, currently edited by , was funded through a program within this initiative. It is mostly produced locally in the Barcelona metropolitan area, with workshops led by women, avoiding toxic substances in glues, paints and varnishes. It uses adhesives with an ultra-low formaldehyde content and features cushion fillings made from local wool waste, instead of the usual polyurethane foam. Additionally, it is upholstered with high-quality recycled fabrics manufactured in Catalonia. Its modular, repairable, and detachable design follows the principles of circular design, a philosophy we have been incorporating into our designs for over fifteen years.

We are very proud that Niu was one of the projects selected to represent the New European Bauhaus initiative at the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya).
