🏍️🇪🇸 New Rule for Motorcyclists from 1 October 2026

A new traffic regulation coming into force on **1 October 2026** will require motorcyclists to wear a **high-visibility vest or reflective jacket** if they have to get off their motorcycle after a breakdown or emergency stop on an **interurban road**.

This requirement applies to:

🏍️ Motorcycles
🛵 Mopeds
🛺 Three-wheeled motor vehicles
🚙 Light quadricycles

🦺 The high-visibility garment must comply with the European standard and should be stored somewhere you can easily reach before leaving your motorcycle.

🎯 Why is this rule being introduced?

The objective is to improve the visibility of riders and reduce the risk of secondary accidents on higher-speed roads.

💶 Failure to wear the required vest could result in a **€200 fine**.

However, the measure has also generated discussion.

Several motorcycle associations believe the rule could be difficult to follow because many motorcycles have little or no storage space to carry a high-visibility vest. They have asked the authorities to review or adapt the regulation.
