Please see below information concerning a newly established joint 3-year position between the University of Cambridge and the University of the Witwatersrand. The position is intended as a 50:50 share between the two institutions, and for this reason separate applications (although in substance these can be closely similar) need to be made to both institutions, so those considering applying must check both URLs below for details on how to apply and additional information about the post at the respective employing institutions.
Cambridge University, Department of Archaeology, and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, are seeking to appoint to a 3-year Fellowship in African Quaternary Archaeology and Hominin Palaeoecology. The successful applicant is expected to take up both positions on 1 March 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post-holder will be based in the Department of Archaeology and the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research on 50% contract AND at the Evolutionary Studies Institute, University of the Witwatersrand, at the level of an Associate Professor, also at 50% contract. Assistant Professor of Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology at Rice University, located in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin July 1, 2020. Assistant professors are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and perform research in their specialized area. The successful candidate will have demonstrated promise for a national/international reputation in research in anthropological archaeology by their outstanding record of publications and ability to attract external grant funding for an active research program. In addition, they will excel in teaching undergraduate and graduate students. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research interests enhance the department’s existing strengths in the archaeology of Africa and the African Diaspora, and who have research expertise in geoarchaeology, zooarchaeology, and/or remoting sensing/GIS and are willing to develop those specializations at Rice. Candidates should be able to contribute to the Museums and Cultural Heritage program at Rice.
Candidates must currently have a Ph.D. or complete the Ph.D. by July 1, 2020.
