Legand has it that a bartender at Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico, named Ramón “Monchito” Marrero Perez, was asked by the hotel’s management to create a signature drink. After months of experimenting, he finally came up with the perfect blend of pineapple, coconut, and rum, which he named The Piña Colada.
