I still get nervous before every show or audition.

It’s not something that goes away. It’s that same feeling you get before an exam, a big presentation, or walking into a room full of new people. Your heart races, your hands shake a little, and you start overthinking everything.

But I’ve realised those nerves mean I care. I want to do my best. And I still get them.

I don’t want to let myself or anyone else down. So now, instead of fighting it, I try to breathe, smile and let the nerves turn into energy once I start singing.

Feeling nervous just means what you’re doing matters. 💛🎤

I am SO excited (and slightly nervous!) 🎤💃

Today I’m in Madrid for my second-stage live audition with Tour Music Fest Europe, taking place in a recording studio.

This time, I’ll be performing two songs…one with music and one acappella. It’s such an amazing opportunity to show every side of my singing…emotion, technique, control and storytelling.

And the prizes? Honestly, they’re next-level:

I honestly don’t think I’d be the singer I am today without my vocal coach, Bernii Mac’s Becoming The Artist. I’ve been with her for just over 6 years now which is kind of mad when I think about it, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

From day one she’s made lessons fun but also pushed me in the best way. She doesn’t just tell me if something sounds good or bad, she explains why, how the voice actually works, and how I can make it better. Over the years she’s helped me build proper technique, confidence on stage, and even how to handle nerves. And the crazy thing is, it all works just as well online. I can literally be sat in my room and still come out of a session feeling like I’ve levelled up.

What I love about Bernii is that she’s not like other vocal coaches who just stick to scales and exercises. She’s lived it. She trained with Vincent Pirillio, who was a student of Seth Riggs (the guy who taught Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and loads of other icons!!) She also worked with Carleen Anderson from The Brand New Heavies, Roger Cain (who coached Madonna), and has sung live on Radio 2. She even wrote and sang the topline on a global dance track called Wired that went top 12 worldwide. ⭐⭐

Bernii has also performed in choirs with Ozzy and Kelly Osborne, Pitchshifter and Aled Jones and worked with musicians who’ve played for Olly Murs, Ruby Turner, Jason Donovan and more. She’s also sung with blues artists Dani and Will Wilde, and worked with producer Mike Vernon, who’s produced legends like Eric Clapton and David Bowie. Yes - I'm name-dropping, but it's hugely reassuring to me that Bernii has a wealth of experience so many other arrtists.

But it’s not just the music credentials that make her special. Bernii is a huge advocate for mental health and well-being in the music industry. She understands what it’s like to struggle with confidence and self-belief and she’s built her whole coaching around empowering people to find their authentic voice. She also works in schools, running workshops for kids, and she organises showcases where her students (like me!) get the chance to perform live. Those opportunities are honestly priceless when you’re trying to grow as a singer.

She doesn’t just do vocal lessons either. She offers confidence coaching, artist mentoring, performance training, and even an online membership for new artists who want guidance on navigating the industry. It’s basically everything you need to actually build a career in music, not just a nice singing voice.

So yeah, when I say I’m learning from someone who’s been there, done that and knows how this industry really works, I mean it.

I’ve learnt so much from her already, but there’s still loads I want to get better at like songwriting, belting with control, and really owning the stage when I perform. Bernii has this way of making me feel like all of that is possible if I just keep working at it.

I guess that’s why I’ve stuck with her for so long. She’s not just teaching me how to sing, she’s teaching me how to be an artist.💜
