Saint Pachomius was a 4th-century Egyptian monk known as the “father of communal monasticism” because he organized monks into structured communities rather than isolated hermits.

After converting to Christianity following the kindness he received from Christians while serving in the Roman army, he devoted his life to prayer, discipline, and building monasteries centered on shared work, worship, and charity.

His rule for monastic life became the foundation for many later Christian monastic traditions in both the East and West.
