Taposiris Magna holds a special allure because of its potential connection with one of the most famous figures of ancient Egypt, Cleopatra VII. The city gained contemporary attention due to the tantalizing possibility that it might contain the final resting place of Cleopatra.

Among the discoveries are coins bearing Cleopatra's image, as well as fragments of statues and other artifacts associated with the Ptolemaic period.
