Applying to a German university is not something you should do on the side. 🧐 The requirements and deadlines vary from university to university and depend on the subject. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, we want to point out a few things today that are bureaucratic but good to know. ✌️

👉 Find out where to apply! This depends on two things: where you took your school-leaving qualification and what subject you wish to study. Find out in good time to which institution you have to submit your application.

👉 Yes, there are admission restrictions. Even if you fulfill the general requirements for academic studies in Germany 🇩🇪, it might not be possible to enroll in your chosen subject.

👉 Be prepared to pay (administrative) fees. You should plan for the cost of German or English language courses and certifications and tests that you might have to take. There are often also charged smaller administrative fees for the application itself.

👉 Keep an eye on all deadlines! Application deadlines are usually several months before the start of the semester. Universities will only accept your application if it is completed in full and submitted by the application deadline. Attention: Different universities, possibly different deadlines!
