Our winter school closes with a lecture from Stefan Berger (Ruhr University Bochum) at 13:30 titled „Memories of Violent Conflict in Europe – towards agonistic perspectives?”. In this talk, Prof. Berger will introduce theories of agonistic memory and ask how the memory of violent conflict in Europe, wars, civil wars, ideological conflicts, social upheaval, might be affected by moving towards more agonistic perspectives. Building on the work by Anna Cento Bull and Hans Lauge Hansen on agonistic memory, the lecture will work with various examples to underpin how agonistic perspectives might be usefully employed in memory studies across a variety of different themes. Come end your work week with an engaging talk! See you on Zoom!

As today our participants are enjoying a change of pace on our workshops day, let us introduce the first lecture of tomorrow. At 9:30 tomorrow, Lionel Ruffel (Université Paris 8) will delve into the essence of literary genres: a concept that we usually take as something given and stable. Prof. Ruffel argues that this is not the case, and literary genres are fluid in nature as he discusses a non-binary approach to literature (trans)formations. Join us and Prof. Ruffel in Jakobi 2-226 or on Zoom!

Timo Maran (University of Tartu) will give a lecture today at 14:30 on the degrowth movement: a societal movement which argues against the rapid growth in economy which we have seen over the past years. Prof. Maran will analyse the movement from a semiotic perspective. “To support the degrowth transformation, I propose the view of the semiosis of the living as an understanding that significance arises foremost from the semiotic participation in the specific lived (cultural, social, and natural) ecologies.” Join us and Prof. Maran in Jakobi 2-226 or on Zoom!
