I think that what many feel for animals, children, or people, I feel for objects. A poignant sense of pity, perhaps, mixed with tenderness and a secret adoration. A desire to protect, to preserve, to transform, to cherish. Things are perfect in their objectivity. In their silence. Their functionality extends their life, but they don't necessarily have to serve. They can simply stand in silence—and the finer the object, the more it says in its objective, detached self-sufficiency.
