Матрица разоблачена! Её код - рецепты суши на японском 😂🍣

The Matrix’s famous green falling code, called “digital rain,” was created from Japanese sushi recipes.

Production designer Simon Whiteley at Animal Logic made it after the Wachowskis rejected an earlier design, wanting something more Japanese and manga-style.

In an interview with Cnet (2017), Whiteley revealed: “I like to tell everybody that the Matrix code is made out of Japanese sushi recipes. I scanned the characters from my wife’s Japanese cookbooks.”

Whiteley’s Japanese wife helped him browse through her cookbooks for inspiration. One recipe book particularly caught his eye and became the basis for the code.

Whiteley hand-painted each Japanese letter, which were digitized by Justen Marshall.

Originally designed to flow left-to-right, Whiteley changed it to top-to-bottom like Japanese text reads. Whiteley loves that the mechanical movie’s code came from something “organic and free-flowing.”
