Slovakia has approved the killing of 350 brown bears, bypassing EU and international protections by declaring a state of emergency.
The plan lacks scientific backing, ignores non-lethal alternatives, and sets a dangerous precedent for wildlife management across the EU.
Brown bears are a keystone species. Removing them from an ecosystem can trigger cascading effects—disrupting everything from vegetation patterns to the health of other animal populations. It’s time to change our relationship with nature.
Humans and bears CAN COEXIST With prevention, education, and mutual respect.

Rodenticide Free Ontario (RFO) is calling on the Minister of Health to protect our wildlife, pollinators, and communities from dangerous pesticide practices. With alarming declines in birds and other wildlife, we need full transparency in how pesticides—like rodenticides—are evaluated.
RFO has launched Petition E-5320 demanding transparency to protect wildlife, companion animals, human health and the environment from the harm of pesticides. Sponsored by MP Mike Morrice, this petition demands:
→ Full transparency in the pesticide evaluation process by publicly disclosing all data sources considered—and not considered—in the re-evaluation or special review of pest control products including rodenticides.
→ Commitment to scientific integrity by prohibiting individuals with financial conflicts of interest from serving on advisory committees that inform pesticide policy decisions.
→ An independent review of systems in place for monitoring risks and consequences of pesticides on wildlife, including collection and analysis of mortality data.
→ Halting registration of all new pesticide products until full transparency is achieved in the evaluation process.
