We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Max Andrew, affectionately known to generations of students as “Sir Max” or “Mr. Andrew,” who passed away on Sunday, 22 February, at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.

Mr. Andrew had been with Lead Institute since its inception in 2010 and was instrumental in its management, growth, and development. His dedication and commitment significantly contributed to the Institute’s outstanding performances in both CAPE and Cambridge A’ Level examinations.

Over the years, he lectured in Caribbean Studies, Communication Studies, History, Economics, Geography, and Environmental Science. He was an altruistic, caring, and conscientious educator who truly loved his students. Always willing to go the extra mile, he quietly assisted some students with tuition and gave selflessly of his time and energy. Teaching was not just his profession—it was his passion.

Mr. Andrew was wholly devoted to the development of education in Dominica and to the advancement of Dominican youth. He spent his entire working life either in the classroom or in the administration of education. His distinguished career included service at the Wesley High School, Principal of the St. Andrews High School, Principal of Nehemiah Comprehensive High School, Education Development Officer with the Curriculum Development Unit, and as a lecturer at the Dominica Teacher’s College, the Dominica State College (Sixth Form College), UWI Open Campus, Business Training Center, and Lead Institute.

Mr. Andrew was well loved by the entire Lead Institute community and will be dearly missed. His legacy of excellence, integrity, and service will continue to inspire us all.

Lead Institute extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends, colleagues, and former students of the late Mr. Max Andrew.

May he rest in peace.
