Swann Studio has a global catalogue of narrators that speak 14 different native-level languages. Of course, this doesn’t include our many voice actors who know more than one language, a necessary skill when narrating translated fiction and nonfiction.

The biggest book deal of all-time was made four years ago when Penguin Random House acquired, in a two-book deal, the memoirs of Barack and Michelle Obama, and gave an advance of 65 million dollars.

Swann Studio was lucky enough to produce the Danish audiobook of A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama for Lindhardt & Ringhof, but as with all great books, there was a catch: We couldn’t tell anyone we were working on this book—or share any information on it whatsoever—before the book was published.

Swann Studio was the first audiobook publisher in Denmark.

Back in 1983, when the company was founded, audiobooks were primarily for the visually impaired, but with the digital expansion of the market today—primarily thanks to the efforts of Storytel, taking risks and turning audio mainstream through streaming—audiobooks are now for anyone looking for a good story.

When did you first listen to an audiobook?

2020 was an unprecedented year, also in terms of audiobook production.

More than ever, people looked to streaming for entertainment to make downtime more enjoyable, and this also meant that many discovered or rediscovered the art of verbal storytelling.

Because of this trend, our production numbers went up, and we’re proud to declare that Swann Studio, in 2020 alone, produced a total of 2644 audiobooks for 40 publishers in 12 languages—an unprecedented number, fuelling our ambitions for future projects.
