Can you drive more upgrades without adding pressure or removing choice?

In my latest teardown, I start from a simple two-option pricing page and layer in:

✅ Decoy Effect to anchor the “Print + Online” bundle
✅ Social Proof to reduce doubt and signal the right choice
✅ Endowment Effect via trial access, so downgrading feels like a loss

No dark patterns. Just clear framing that aligns value with behaviour.

If you work in product, UX, or growth and you’re refining your pricing page this quarter, this is a practical pattern you can deploy fast.

For more structured tactics, I’m pulling from the Persuasive Patterns card deck.

Remember the 2017 Reddit contest to build the worst volume control?

Those “bad” designs proved why UX principles matter:
- Affordance
- Predictability
- Efficiency
- Respect for time

Patterns capture these lessons. Use UI patterns to solve real problems.

We often think more choice means better decisions — but too much freedom can lead to worse ones.

✅ Default Effect
✅ Social Proof
✅ Centre-Stage Effect

Together, they help users make better decisions by design.

Yet most teams still hire, code, and then ask customers to buy.
I flipped that order years ago: landing page → pre-orders → then code.

Result? Faster truth, smaller burn, better odds.
