Album Review: The Fright Fright - D.E.A.T.H.

One of my most pleasant discoveries in recent years has been The Fright. Their album "Voices Within" formed a perfect hybrid between gothic rock and gothic metal, with great vocals and excellent songwriting. Now there is the successor, an EP called "D.E.A.T.H."

The EP contains five songs, starting with the letters of the title, even if streaming services got the order of the songs mixed up. Stylistically, you can expect the same as on "Voices Within": gothic metal goes hand in hand with gothic rock, creating a dark and depressive atmosphere without going to extremes.

References to bands like The Sisters Of Mercy, The Cult, Scream Silence, and Lacrimas Profundere are easily made, so it's clear that The Fright is not aiming for anything avant-garde here. Instead, "D.E.A.T.H." is a coherent collection of well-crafted songs that should appeal to anyone who loves dark, but not overly heavy music with guitars. The vocal delivery even gives me the occasional '80s hard rock vibe, which works surprisingly well with this kind of music. Go check it out, you won't regret it.
