Hugely well deserved to Hummelbude in Germany for receiving two stars in their very first Food Made Good Standard assessment. Delivered by The Sustainable Restaurant Association, this world-leading sustainability Standard analyses how a hospitality business measures up when it comes to ensuring environmental and social responsibility are central to its operations.

This 100% plant-based fine dining restaurant offers a thoughtfully curated menu celebrating the beauty of plants in their fullest form. They are incredibly considerate in their sourcing; collaborating with a close network of suppliers in and around Essen, growing diverse heritage varieties and regional organic produce. They proudly accept all vegetables, even the odd and wonky ones that others might reject.

Alongside this, they are equally dedicated to strengthening food culture and climate action in their city. They give lectures on vegan cooking to local schools and collaborate with local food waste organisations to provide cooking demonstrations using surplus ingredients. Their kitchen is fully electric, powered by 100% renewable energy, and they distribute containers as part of a zero-waste takeaway system. We also commend how transparent they are with guests. They have a page dedicated to showing exactly what you're paying for when you dine with them, clearly breaking down the real costs of running a restaurant.

A huge well done to the whole team, led by the inspirational Nicole and Jonas. A brilliant example for hospitality businesses looking to put heart and soul into their operations and create something that coexists more holistically with the world around them.
