Thus – despite being a female sound – Asantewaa Sound is not afraid of playing hardcore tunes without censorship as long as it is entertaining. This preference is also reflected in the sound name which stems from „Yaa Asantewaa“ who was a former queen mother of the Ashanti empire in Ghana and a real warrior queen since she led the Ashanti rebellion against British colonialism in 1900. The soundname further reflects Asantewaa's ambition to promote female artists in the Dancehall business and last but not least to draw attention to the linkages between West African and Caribbean music. So far Asantewaa Sound has played at dances in Germany, Jamaica and Ghana in cities like Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Dresden, Bersenbrück (Reggaejam Festival), Port Antonio (JA), Oracabessa (JA), Accra (GH), Cape Coast (GH) etc. alongside local as well as well known sounds such as Pow Pow Movement, Blessed Love, Big Mama, Rebel Sound or Stingray Disco. Asantewaa Sound - “original Bad Gal Sound“ - wurde im Sommer 2013 gegründet. Dalia (Selectress/MCee) und Zanima (Selectress) lernten sich auf einer der populären Kölner Reggae/Dancehall Parties kennen. Ihre gemeinsame Leidenschaft für Dancehall Musik motivierte sie bald darauf, ihren eigenen Sound zu gründen. Asantewaa Sound hat sie sich vor allem darauf spezialisiert, Dancehall Musik in all ihren Facetten zu promoten – von early Digital bis hin zu new Tunes – und diese mit artverwandten Genres zu mixen, insbesondere mit Afrobeats und Soca. Zu Asantewaa's Musikrepertoire zählt darüber hinaus Reggae, Hip Hop, R'N'B, Trap, Gqom etc. Während ihrer Jamaikaaufenthalte, wo sie auf zahlreichen (Street) Dances in Kingston und andernorts unterwegs waren, hinterließ der schnelle und harte Juggling Style, durch den die meisten heutigen jamaikanischen Soundsystems geprägt sind, bei Zanima und Dalia einen bleibenden Eindruck. Dadurch beeinflusst, scheut sich Ansantewaa Sound auch nicht – unabhängig davon, dass sie ein female Sound sind – Hardcore Tunes ohne Zensierung zu spielen, solange diese unterhaltsam sind. Diese Präferenz spiegelt sich auch im Soundnamen wieder: „Yaa Asantewaa“ war eine frühere Königinmutter der Ashanti in Ghana und eine echte Kriegerin, da sie im Jahr 1900 den Ashanti Aufstand gegen die britische Kolonialherrschaft über ihr Land anführte. Des Weiteren ist der Name bezeichnend für Asantewaas Bestreben, weibliche Artists im Dancehall Business zu promoten und nicht zu guter Letzt soll durch den Soundnamen auf die Ähnlichkeit westafrikanischer und karibischer Musik aufmerksam gemacht werden. Bis dato hat Asantewaa Sound auf Dances in Deutschland, Jamaika und Ghana gespielt, in Städten wie Köln, Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Dresden, Bersenbrück (Reggaejam), Port Antonio (JA), Oracabessa (JA), Accra (GH), Cape Coast (GH) etc. zusammen mit lokalen und namenhaften Sounds wie z.B. Pow Pow Movement, Blessed Love, Big Mama, Rebel Sound oder Stingray Disco.
