In ancient Greece the sanctuary of the muses, in which musical and mental education, art and science were cultivated and altogether advanced, was called Museion. The project MUSEION is supposed to stand in the tradition of this ideal:

Conventionally, there are forms of transmitting information in the museological domain which base on digital media and are primarily restricted to an auditory level. To allow the user to purchase a huge mass of information independently and unbound to local technological fixtures, the use of smartphones and tablets is comprised and included by the project in the procedure of the exhibition. This range of information is conducted by the user’s interests with regards to content and media. Allowing the mentioned characteristics, the project MUSEION realises the educational idea of the ancient Museion in present. Hence it expands the methodic technical horizon of conventional museum culture.
Museion nannte man im antiken Griechenland das Heiligtum der Musen, in dem musische und geistige Bildung, Kunst und Wissenschaft kultiviert und gemeinsam vorangetrieben wurden. Das MUSEION-Projekt stellt sich in die Tradition dieses Ideals: Indem es kulturelle und historische Zeugnisse über moderne Technik innovativ zu vermitteln ermöglicht, verleiht es ihm in der Gegenwart Geltung und eröffnet der Museumskultur eine neue Dimension der Interaktivität. Sein Ziel ist es, auf digitalen Medien basierende Formen der Informationsvermittlung im musealen Bereich, die sich bislang primär auf das Auditive beschränkten, durch zeitgemäße, von den Bedürfnissen des Nutzers definierte Techniken zu ersetzen. Der Einbezug von Smartphones und Tablets, die das Projekt in den Ausstellungsablauf integriert, erlauben es dem Nutzer, eigenständig und ungebunden an fixe technische Vorrichtungen vor Ort ein Mehr an Informationen zu beziehen, das von seinen eigenen inhaltlichen und medialen Interessen geleitet wird. Indem das MUSEION-Projekt genau dies ermöglicht, lässt es den ganzheitlichen Bildungsgedanken des antiken Museions in der Gegenwart Wirklichkeit werden und erweitert so den technisch-methodischen Horizont konventioneller musealer Kultur.
