But don’t worry – no princesses were harmed in the composing of this piece 🙌
Ravel wasn’t inspired by specific person – he was inspired by a place and an era. Many 19th century composers were fascinated by courtly dances from Spain’s Renaissance era, and wrote their own interpretations.
While Ravel wrote his Pavane with an Impressionist twist, he imagined the kind of Spanish princess who would have danced to it back then.
