Unfold II - introducing our next contributing artist Erika Cann.

Cann's work 'Setting Up' is a linocut print of the building/collapse of a tent. Inspired by Dartmoor National Park, currently the only place in England where it is still legal to wild camp - a right which is currently under serious threat. The unfolding matter of space, occupation, freedom to pitch a tent, land ownership and the duality of the unfolding of this case in Dartmoor are brought to the page in Unfold II.

Erika Cann is an artist whose home lies between the granite tors of Dartmoor National Park and the dynamic cliffs of the Jurassic Coast. Her work investigates place through accounts, both historical and contemporary, within the guides and maps of an area. She navigates the environment through climbing - pushing, pulling, jamming and squeezing her way up and through time, geologies and accumulated narratives. The work takes the form of photography, film, and printmaking, which is often imbued with language.

Erika is an advocate for public access to nature, and has recently been awarded a New Perspectives bursary from Campaign for National Parks to use her practice to engage local communities with public transport access to Dartmoor National Park. She hopes to engage local communities with the landscape in a position of care and enjoyment through exploration, which is ecologically considered yet adventurous. The second in a series of publications from COPY, unfold brings together works by twelve artists and writers based across the UK and internationally. Arranged in a series of unfolding pages, the works respond to or embody a state of unfolding: the unfolding of bodies or narratives, unfolding environmental or social conditions, fantasies and the unfolding of worlds, or the unfolding translation of a single word.
