🔵collected & selected poems 🔵

Leslie Scalapino’s it’s go horizontal: Selected Poems, 1974-2006 surveys the career of one of the English language’s most groundbreaking and experimental poets. 🔵 Sampling from her early work, filled with fractured narratives and abject sexuality, towards her later offerings, which orbit around a deep spiritualism and refutation of any singular temporal frame of reference, it’s go in horizontal offers an effective means of entering Scalapino’s oeuvre.

Thomas Bernhard typifies estrangement to one’s homeland, his work continually haunted by Austria’s various fascisms, be they pre- or post-war. There’s everything you would expect there to be in his collected poems — lots of talk of distant fathers, sickly landscapes, the miseries of the pastoral, su***de, and all manners of dying. 🔵 An essential volume for any Bernhard fan.

Perhaps more known for his essays, John Berger was an accomplished poet in his own right. Across assonant rhyme, rhythmic verses, and mirrored stanzas, Berger’s poetry reflects on language, dispossession, and death, accompanied by motherly figures, animal invocations, and lost loves. 🔵

Published by , Poems 1972-1982, compiles three of Denise Levertov’s strongest works — The Freeing of the Dust, Life in the Forest, and Candles in Babylon. 🔵 Across, one is confronted by death psalms, proustian memories, and phantasms colored by natural images, anaphoric structures, and rich historical references.

🟣book highlight: 𝘖.𝘉.𝘉. 🟣

“What is this beautiful object?”, Stephen Voyce asks, referring to 𝘖.𝘉.𝘉., written by poet, writer and artist Paolo Javier and published in 2021 by . 🟣 It is a beautiful and dense polyphony of image and text, comic and poetry, blending in experimental and challenging rhythms, inviting the reader to approach and reread it on multiple levels. It took over a decade to finish, contains art by Alex Tarampi and Ernest Conception, and is a nomadic mixed-media journey deeply specific to Javier's biography yet fully opened to universal resonance. 🟣 It dives deeply into the historicities of the genre, culminating into this “weird postcolonial techno dream-pop“, as the author describes it. 🟣
