Dodoo Coding Club

As the year comes to a close, we want to share a brief update on how our students are growing. Many of them have been part of Dodoo Coding Club since our foundation, and it has been rewarding to see how steady learning, curiosity, and community support are translating into real progress in their lives.

We’ll start with someone many of you are familiar with: Esther Owusu, now 20 years old.

She is currently studying Law with Public Policy at Ashesi University, widely regarded as the leading private university in West Africa.

She was awarded a highly competitive, full four-year scholarship from the Mastercard Foundation, an opportunity she is deeply grateful for and does not take lightly.

Over the past year, Esther has focused on making the most of this chance by combining academic commitment with leadership and service. She holds leadership roles within the Rise for Impact Community at Ashesi and serves as Events Coordinator on the Youth Advisory Board of Girls Gearing Up.

Alongside her studies, she continues to invest in personal development through mentoring and skills-building, while remaining actively engaged in volunteer work and community initiatives.

DCC is a program for high school students. As our first students have graduated, a few spots have opened up for new members 😀

Demand from the Pokuase community has been overwhelming - hundreds of teenagers have shown strong interest in taking one of the 10 available spots.

To fairly select those students with the most potential, we have asked principals and teachers from both public and private local schools to pre-select their most promising students, irrespective of socioeconomic status.

This week, we invited these students for an information session to get to know DCC. Their curiosity about IT, STEM and our program was absolutely outstanding and we look forward to welcoming some of them in our program soon.

The next step: Our short-listed candidates will take an admission test that checks their mathematical and analytical abilities. The 10 best candidates will then be admitted to our program 🎉💙
