My blue girl has improved since last year. This time, she laid a beautiful 14 fertile eggs.
Nothing out of the ordinary to see here, just a Xerotyphlops vermicularis eating an ant pinky on a teaspoon.

Endoparasites in my collection?! Just kidding — it’s the obscure Xerotyphlops vermicularis. This is the smallest snake and also the only scolecophidian I’ve ever kept. I probably don’t need to mention that they are extremely specialized feeders as well. Keeping this species will definitely be a huge challenge for me.

Another exciting addition to my collection are these juvenile Hallowell’s house snakes, Boaedon virgatus, which I received from my colleague as part of our joint project aimed at establishing this species in captivity. As far as I know, these are probably the world’s first CBB babies and certainly the only ones currently present in herpetoculture.
It is truly a fascinating species, characterized by a beautiful salmon-colored belly and, in adulthood, a striking iridescence of the body. Compared to other house snake species, they are also much more humidity-dependent and, unfortunately, rather selective feeders. Fortunately, these little guys are now feeding well on mourning geckos.
So keep your fingers crossed that they continue to thrive and that we succeed in establishing this species more widely in herpetoculture.
