The company announced new features designed to make searching and interacting with content easier.

🔍 AI-powered app comparisons. This feature uses the model to facilitate easy comparisons of apps within similar categories. For instance, if a user is looking for an app to complete a specific task, the AI will suggest several options with AI-generated descriptions — helping the user quickly choose the most suitable app.

💡 Personalized game recommendations. With a variety of interest filters, users can manually specify their preferences — allowing to suggest games tailored to their tastes.

🔖 New “Collections”. This feature brings content from installed apps to the home screen. A long press on the Play Store icon now reveals a menu with seven categories: “Food”, “Game”, “Listen”, “Read”, “Shop”, “Social”, and “Watch”. Each category includes a selection of relevant apps that the user has recently interacted with. Users can resume their activities, like continuing to watch a show. Currently, this feature is available in the United States.

🔓 “Personalization in Play” in the main menu allows users to control how the Play Store collects their data. For example, they can choose not to use specific apps for personalizing content in the Play Store. Changes may take up to 24 hours to be fully implemented.

Google will remove apps with limited functionality from the Play Store ⚡️

Starting August 31, 2024, the updated Spam and Minimum Functionality policy on Google Play will come into effect: https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/14983486

Previously, Google did not allow apps with serious functionality issues on the Play Store, such as those that crash, force close, freeze, or otherwise operate abnormally. Now, the list of reasons for removal has been expanded to include limited functionality and content. For example, Google will no longer accept:

❌ Static applications without app-specific functionalities, such as text-only or PDF file apps.
❌ Apps with minimal content and that do not provide an engaging user experience, like single wallpaper apps.
❌ Apps that are designed to do nothing or have no function.

If your apps only have a few functions, it's time to consider updating them to avoid removal by Google 👀
