The humble Deco Donkey 🐴
Here is a little behind the scenes from the world of deep sea technical diving 👀
In this clip you can see what we lovingly call a Deco Donkey; a support diver who Carries multiple cylinders to help technical divers during multiple, long decompression stops. While the team is exploring the deep water far below, the support diver waits in shallower water, bringing the gases they will need on the way back up, and taking any cylinders they no longer need. Each cylinder has a purpose: richer gases for accelerated decompression, backups in case of emergencies, and everything needed to make sure the divers finish the dive safely and smoothly.
It might look like they’re carrying half the ocean on their harness, but every cylinder has an important purpose. And behind all that gear, is someone calmly keeping track of times depths and the divers they’re supporting.
So when this fully loaded deco donkey appears on screen, think of them as the silent guardian of the dive 👼steady, prepared and ready to hand over exactly what is needed at exactly the right moment.
A lot of deep sea dives only happen because of people like this working in the background… and they deserve all the appreciation 🙏
