Technical Woes Leave Twisted Speed Racing Second In N2/WERA National Endurance Series By Dunlop Championship

A simple fuel pump malfunction cost Twisted Speed Racing a shot at the N2/WERA National Endurance Series By Dunlop title, dropping the team well down the order in the winner-take-all showdown against Army of Darkness at Summit Point Raceway.

After a promising start with Taylor Knapp cruising in second, the technical malfunction left the team fourth in the Heavyweight category in the 4-hour race, 28 laps behind AOD at the checkered flag. The team was set to go all-out for the victory, having recruited multi-time Daytona 200 winner Danny Eslick to ride in the final race, and at first all was going according to plan.

"Three laps in, Taylor gave us the thumbs-up. We knew he was sitting on (AOD's Chris) Peris. He said his plan was to wear him out for ten laps and then go. And at about 20 minutes, he felt the bike started to sputter,” says Twisted Speed's Brad Burns.

Repairs in the pits cost the team 30 minutes, knocking them out of contention for the victory. But the team completed the season in second place in the Championship with two wins and multiple fast laps during the races.

Burns says the squad will be back next year for another shot at the title.

“This year was magical,” Burns says. “We had the best tires, the best riders, the best pit stops. We're going to keep refining our program. We have a list of stuff that we know we can improve on. We're going to keep moving forward.”
