But Sir Ken believed there was a second world just as worthy of attention. The one that only exists because you do. Your consciousness. Your perceptions. The thoughts and beliefs you’ve inherited, and the ones that are entirely your own. A world that came into being when you did, and will end when you do. Most education speaks almost exclusively to the first. The second, the inner world, the individual, the person behind the student, rarely gets a mention. Most of us were never told what actually happens. The hormone crash in the 48 hours afterwards equals 180 years of male ageing. And her brain is physically rebuilding itself into someone she’s never been. She’s not recovering. She’s becoming. Your job in that first year isn’t to fix her. It’s to hold the ground steady while a new version of her builds herself. The woman you knew is offline. Maybe permanently. And the one who emerges, if you hold the ground while she builds her, is the woman you’ll spend the rest of your life with. Send this to a new dad.
