Longer service life thanks to steel rings

In newer engines, the steel rings can be placed even closer to the piston crown due to their lower axial ring height, which reduces exhaust emissions.
Compared to spheroidal or grey cast iron, steel is characterised by the fact that ring breakage is not possible. Due to the greater hardness of steel, there are also advantages over cast materials in terms of flank wear on the rings and groove wear on the piston. Steel rings ensure a longer service life and reduce groove wear on the piston.
