nd research focuses on the intersection of new human interface, visual stimulus, technology, media, mobility, information and sound design. Starting in the early 1990’s with the Minneapolis Darkwave band Dies Irae ! US, Benjamin has been involved with both creating, playing and DJ’ing all types of music. US with fellow confidant Jonathan Ford (Dissociate). They played festivals such as Wave Gothik Treffen in Leipzing German. In the late 1990’s Jon and Ben left Dies Irae ! US and formed the electro-industrial duo Animadversion. Shortly after he moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he went on to form the band Blindworks. In 2005 he started working on solo projects as SoundSpade and Phase Angle. Throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s he Dj’d at various clubs in North America, Europe and Asia. In 2010 he moved to Beijing, China and in 2011 he and Alexander Chow formed the cult DJ group Black Eyeliner. He continues to perform and DJ with Black Eyeliner and his solo projects SoundSpade and a new event devoted to the exploration of live experimental music called Voltage Divider. In 2005, he co-founded the new media research group SpyLab that’s mission is to create long distance collaborative projects with researchers, musicians and artists around the world. He has lectured, performed and exhibited at a variety of institutions, exhibitions, events and conferences.
