Qiān shān niǎo fēijué,
千山鸟飞绝，
wàn jìng rén zōng miè.
万径人踪灭。
Gū zhōu suō lì wēng,
孤舟蓑笠翁，
dú diào hán jiāng xuě.
独钓寒江雪。

Evaluation

山岭中已经看不到鸟儿的踪影，道路上，人的踪迹也早已消失。大雪纷飞的江面上，有一只孤零零的小船，船上一位老渔翁，披着蓑衣，戴着斗笠，正在独自垂钓。
Traces of birds are no longer seen in a hundrend mountains and footprints of human beings disappear on a thousand paths. On a snowy day, there is a boat and an old fisherman on the river. He is angling alone in the big snow, wearing a palm bark rain cape and a bamboo leaf hat.

诗人通过这首诗，给我们描绘了这样一个场景：大雪纷飞，天地茫茫；旷野间是那么洁净、寒冷，而又空旷、寂静。清高、孤傲的老渔翁不畏雪大天寒，独自守在小船上专心地钓鱼。这不仅仅是对景色的描写，更是诗人清高孤傲的性格写照。这首诗寄托了诗人摆脱世俗、超然物外的思想感情。
The poet depicts such a scene for us: a completely white world obscured by thick snowflakes. Clean and freezing as the wild is, it also gives a feeling of open and quietness. A proud and lonely old man is fishing attentively in his small boat despite of the heavy snow and freezing cold. This poem not only depicts the scene, but also the high-hearted pride of the poet. It is entrusted with the poet’s desire of breaking away from the mundane world and staying aloof from the mortal life.
