HA 188 is a high-performance cobalt-based superalloy engineered for exceptional mechanical integrity and environmental resistance in extreme high-temperature applications. Its composition is carefully balanced with significant additions of Chromium (20.00–24.00 wt%) and Nickel (20.00–24.00 wt%), alongside Tungsten (13.00–16.00 wt%) as the primary solid solution strengthener. Minor additions of Lanthanum (0.03–0.12 wt%) and Boron (≤0.015 wt%) are incorporated to enhance grain boundary strength and oxidation resistance, while strict control of sulfur and phosphorus ensures microstructural stability.
The alloy exhibits outstanding mechanical properties across a broad temperature range. At ambient temperatures (25°C), it achieves a tensile strength of ≥900 MPa and yield strength of ≥400 MPa, maintaining excellent ductility (elongation ≥45%). Crucially, HA 188 retains significant load-bearing capacity at elevated temperatures, with tensile strength remaining above 300 MPa even at 900°C. This performance is complemented by superior oxidation and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for harsh environments such as gas turbine hot sections.
In its powder form, HA 188 is optimized for additive manufacturing and powder metallurgy. It features a controlled particle size distribution (15–53 μm), excellent flowability (≤25 s/50g), and high bulk density (≥4.80 g/cm³). The recommended post-processing heat treatment involves a solution treatment at 1180±20°C for 1 hour followed by air cooling (AC).
