Consortium Takes 16 Days of Activism Campaign to the Airwaves on CBC Radio Buea FM 101.9
As part of activities marking the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, our consortium of partner organisations featured on a live radio program this morning on CBC Radio Buea FM 101.9 to engage the wider public on the realities of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the urgent need for collective action.
The radio discussion centered on this year’s global theme, “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” and the powerful message it carries about the growing forms of abuse occurring through phones, social media, and other digital platforms. The conversation also examined the relevance of the theme within the Cameroonian context, where the increasing use of digital spaces has exposed women and girls to new risks such as online harassment, blackmail, impersonation, and non-consensual sharing of images.
The speakers further highlighted the importance of unity among key stakeholders, including parents, schools, community and religious leaders, law enforcement, youths, media, and civil society, in preventing and responding to both offline and online forms of violence. The session also addressed harmful myths surrounding GBV, the need for accountability for perpetrators, and the importance of providing support, protection, and encouragement to victims to speak out without fear or shame.
Through this engagement, listeners were reminded that ending Gender-Based Violence is a shared responsibility and that safety must extend to both physical and digital spaces.
We appreciate CBC Radio Buea FM 101.9 for providing this important platform for public sensitization, and we remain committed, as a consortium of partners, to advancing awareness, prevention, and community action throughout the 16 Days and beyond.

Online spaces should be places of learning, connection and empowerment, not fear. Yet every day, women and girls across the world face harassment, cyber-bullying, non-consensual image sharing, digital stalking and other forms of online violence that silence their voices and limit their freedom.

We honour those we have lost, support those living with HIV and recommit to prevention, testing, treatment and compassion. As the world focuses on “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” we are reminded that ending stigma is just as important as expanding access to care. A healthier, safer future begins with awareness, acceptance and collective action. HIV is not a death sentence; stigma is.
