The WMO Global Seasonal Climate Update indicates that a strong El Niño rapidly developing during July–September 2026.

Seasonal forecasts for the next three months reflect a strengthening El Niño, with:
🌧️ Above-normal rainfall across the central and eastern equatorial Pacific
☀️ Below-normal rainfall across parts of the tropical Indian Ocean, the Indian subcontinent, and much of Australia
🌡️ Above-average temperatures across most land areas, including nearly all populated regions outside the poles
