TCI is joining partners for the side event “Deinstitutionalisation of People with Disabilities: 20 Years of the UNCRPD – From Rights on Paper to Community-Based Reality.”
Twenty years after the adoption of the CRPD, many persons with disabilities continue to face institutionalisation, exclusion, and barriers to independent living. This discussion will reflect on progress made, ongoing challenges, and the actions needed to make community inclusion a reality for all.
This side event is hosted by the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO), Australian Disability and Development Consortium (ADDC), TCI Global, Psychiatric Survivors Association Fiji, CBM Australia and co-hosted with Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

TCI is heading to COSP19! 🌍
From June 8-11, 2026, we'll be at the 19th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the CRPD, represented by our diverse members from across regions, bringing a wide range of grounded experiences and perspectives of persons with psychosocial disabilities to the global stage.
Our week includes official statements at the Civil Society Forum, on strengthening care and support systems to ensure the empowerment, autonomy, and independence of all persons with disabilities. Roundtables on exploitation, violence and abuse for all persons with disabilities, and civic participation; hosting a side event; partnering in other sessions; and speaking engagements across all four days.
It's our members who are in these rooms, at those mics, and in those conversations, ensuring our constituency is seen, heard, and centered.
Join us as we contribute to global discussions and work alongside members, partners, and disability rights leaders from around the world to advance the implementation of the CRPD.

📢 Happening Today!
On behalf of the Global Coalition on Deinstitutionalization (GC-DI), TCI is pleased to invite you to an upcoming webinar on:
“How to use International Complaints to Challenge Institutionalization under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)”
Institutionalization continues to impact the lives, autonomy, legal capacity, and community inclusion of persons with disabilities across the world. This webinar will explore how international complaints mechanisms under the CRPD can be used as tools for advocacy, accountability, and systemic change toward deinstitutionalization and community living.
The session will bring together disability rights advocates, OPDs, legal experts, and civil society representatives to discuss practical pathways for engaging with these mechanisms and strengthening rights-based advocacy efforts at national, regional, and global levels.
We are honoured to organize this discussion together with partners from the Global Coalition on Deinstitutionalization (GC-DI), including the International Disability Alliance (IDA), Inclusion International, ENIL, Disability Rights International, Centre for Human Rights, and Validity Foundation.
