🧫🌱 Chemical, Biological, and Ecological Evidence for Aerobic Deoxynivalenol Detoxification in Agronomic Soil-Derived Bacterial Communities
DON in cereals = food/feed safety risk. This study screened 43 aerobic soil communities—62% showed DON depletion. Z13 soil community eliminated DON without detectable by-products, with no cytotoxicity in HepG2 cells.
🔬 Key findings:
• 3-keto-DON identified as major metabolite in most cultures (still toxic!)
• Devosia strain converted DON to 3-epi-DON (less toxic)
• Z13: high diversity, Devosia + Nocardioides + Pseudomonas enriched
• Storage sensitivity & community dependence = practical constraints
📊 Integrated chemical + biological + ecological evidence for aerobic DON biotransformation.
