Sometimes we encounter the unexpected while we're out in the field collecting data. Here are a few unexpected and joyful encounters we've had recently:
1. A Great Grey Owl at the Boreal Ecology Centre
2. Rescuing an Eastern Bluebird stuck in the chimney at the centre
3. A beaver living its best life in the Boggy River
4. A raccoon having a snooze in the owl box at CMU.

Thank you to the intrepid volunteers who came out this past weekend for our first Conservation Saturday at the Boreal Ecology Centre! We accomplished some great headway on our long-term forest monitoring project. If you missed this one, no fear, the next one will be July 24-25! (overnight optional)

🐝 The half-black bumblebee (Bombus vagans) is a native bumblebee found across Canada. Because they typically forage from spring until the frost arrives, these bees rely on a continuous succession of blooming plants to feed their colonies.

You can actively support this essential pollinator by planting native flora in your garden and sidewalks: Wild bergamot, goldenrod, and purple prairie clover provide high-quality pollen and nectar these bumblebees need to thrive.

Interested to find out more about planting native species in your backyard or church garden to support pollinator health?

Nature is so intricate with parts often taken for granted. As we look at the aspects of creation we are inspired by its complexity. Join us for a craft night, inspired by nature, using both natural and recycled materials. We'll make some cards using a printmaking technique and leaves we collect!
July 7, 7:00 pm at CMU
