Throwback to our lobby art commission for 123 James avenue apartments in 2024. Inspired by the seventy hydrants, each equipped with 3” hoses, that stretched eight miles beneath downtown Winnipeg.
We designed dot-matrix numerals, representing the buildings physical address, and composed of seventy 3” steel pipes. Their interiors were hand painted in black, and we powder coated white matte exteriors to seamlessly merge with the wall. Our partner and in-house fabricator, Shaun Slavuta, meticulously produced and installed the finished work.

We recently had the opportunity to work with Elvira on the design of the publication for her work « pandemic diary » launched last night at Martha Street. Some projects are great for the soul.. this is one of them. ❤️
« pandemic diary is a limited edition boxed set of 70 cards, an artist's project by Elvira Finnigan. All the cards have an image of a copper wire X embedded in salt crystals, each similar but different. On the flip side of each card is a word or phrase of a poem by Finnigan.
The original cards, now part of a wall installation entitled pandemic calendar, were made by laying a new copper wire X on a post card sized paper in a bowl of dense salt brine every day of the 70 day Covid lockdown in 2020-21. The interaction of the copper, the salt and the air created a new work every few days.
The poem which is part of the project, reflects Finnigan's experience of that time of widespread isolation and uncertainty. Words and phrases from the poem are revealed as each card is turned over. »
