I hear it all the time. “I don’t know why I react like this. I think I’m just broken.”

You’re not broken. I promise you’re not broken.

Your nervous system is doing exactly what it was designed to do, protect you. The problem is it learned what danger looked like a long time ago, and sometimes it hasn’t gotten the update yet.

That’s not a character flaw. That’s biology.
