The Re-Place

Old friend from university shared this post and asked others to help and/or share as well. They got one of their Guinea pigs from this rescue and speak highly of them as a reputable and compassionate organization; one that is not equipped to handle this massive influx of animals in need right now and requires help to ensure the health and safety of the piggies they have and the new ones on the way.
If you’re able to make a donation, buy them something from their wishlist, or you’re close enough to foster, please consider it, and even if none of those are possible, share this post so others who might be able to help in more concrete ways learn of the situation

The troubled saga of our time on Pelissier reached an unfortunate conclusion early this morning and, as of 2:30 this morning, we have vacated the premises at 419 Pelissier after we were served with notice last week that the locks would be changed today
We asked that the same patience be returned as we extended to them through the repair process while our loss of income insurance claim is still being finalized, but they were unwilling to wait. Although they were required to complete repairs within two months, we patiently waited for over seven months and were told during that time that any delays were the result of the building owner waiting for approval from their insurance
We believed that they had chosen to extend the same courtesy to us as we had extended them and were shocked to receive the notice last week
In the end we remained closed from Christmas Day until reopening the second week after Labour Day, with minimal income during that period.
We removed our property from the affected area within the first days of January, to allow unobstructed access to the space for them to complete cleanup and repairs but it was late April before they did anything about that, as wet & moldy carpets, ceiling tiles, and drywall sat for four months
We had to seal off the affected area and block the vents in front ourselves to prevent contaminating the rest of the store while waiting. Once everything was finally removed, it took nearly two more months for repairs to begin. We weren’t able to use the affected area again until August and an additional six weeks of work were needed for us to get the retail space back to a state suitable for customers. We finally reopened in September and are now closed again
Announcements will be made soon with updates on the future of both & but we won’t be discussing the details of the above situation further right now as both parties have retained legal counsel to resolve matters.
Rest assured, we will get through this just as we have gotten through every other obstacle we’ve faced so far and you can be certain there will be positive news very soon

WE’RE REBRANDING!!! 💚💚💚
When we’re able to reopen (more on that soon) the shop will become The Refillery to better reflect who we are after five years
You may notice we kept Supply Co as part of our username; I made this decision to maintain a connection to the brand’s origins, as well as keeping the EmersonClean name, but we quite like the short version, so welcome to The Refillery (formerly Emerson Supply Co)
This rebrand isn’t really a change, but rather an acknowledgment that, after trying out different paths, we’ve allowed our community of customers to help us evolve and the resulting brand is focused on the actual needs of those people; you!
The products you’ve demonstrated that you want are high quality & effective, ethical & sustainable essentials; cleaning products/tools and skin/hair care products, refillable and package-free when possible. The store will now focus on that core by eliminating new “non-essential lifestyle” items and making it easier for you to access ethical and sustainable options for the products you use the most often
Over-consumption is a huge problem so we are focusing on these core essentials in the spirit of conscious consumption. Acknowledging that many of the “non-essential” items that we are eliminating are neither harmful nor unnecessary, and do add value, we believe that the purchase of any new item should be a conscious decision, not an impulse, and we want to eliminate our involvement in that by no longer carrying those products
With that, we do need to find new homes for the products already in store so those resources don’t go to waste. All remaining stock will be cleared out at a reduced price that honours what went into producing a quality sustainable item. Check out our next post for more about how we’re doing that
There will be more updates soon, but don’t worry, we’re not going anywhere and we’ll actually be adding a more diverse selection of household essentials, including an expansion of our household cleaning and Skin & Hair Care lines
