The government could be subsidising your Vancouver renovation—yet most homeowners never apply.
Here is every active incentive program available in 2026:
💰 Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit Adding a suite for a parent or a family member with a disability? You can claim up to $50,000 in qualifying expenses and receive $7,500 back as a refundable credit. Crucially, there is no income limit for this program.
♿ Federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit If you are 65+ or renovating for accessibility (e.g., walk-in tubs, wider doorways, or ramp access), you can claim up to $20,000 per year—resulting in a $3,000 tax reduction.
🏠 BC Seniors’ Home Renovation Tax Credit This stacks directly on top of the federal credit above. It offers an additional $1,000 back and is refundable, meaning you receive the benefit even if you don’t owe any provincial tax.
🌿 CleanBC Better Homes Rebates Available to BC homeowners undertaking energy efficiency upgrades. Current 2026 rebates include:
* Heat Pumps: Up to $6,000 (standard) or $16,000 (income-qualified).
* Insulation: Up to $5,500.
* Windows & Doors: Up to $2,000.
* Total Savings: Combined upgrades can reach $24,500 for eligible households.
🏗️ BC Secondary Suite Incentive Program (SSIP) Building a rental suite or a laneway house? You may qualify for a forgivable loan of up to $40,000. If you meet the rental requirements for five years, you don’t pay a cent of it back.
